Interesting interview. Impressive experience and knowledge that Mr Rottenburg embodies. I find myself curious though about whether he has a quite different definition of media bias than what is generally accepted? Or does he think there is no such thing as media bias? Or maybe this is just a blind spot for him? I wish I had references at my finger tips to intelligently debate this. Yes, the NYT has been somewhat good at calling out presidental lies in regards to Trump, which is great; but terrible at calling out either Obama or Biden. Who also lied, alot. Not just my opinion on that. Very easily verified. The overriding question in regards to media I think right now for most of us is, how can we trust any of these legacy sources anymore? There appear to be specific agendas. Maybe it simply comes down to what my admiral grandfather ( who btw was a lifelong democrat) said over 50 years ago, ' We do not want our own particular heroes and the leaders we personally invest in to be revealed to have clay feet'. Dan talked briefly about the frightening power of the mob to get journalists fired now. I am not sure he realizes how very much both media and academia and the medical establishment, etc are being bullied, intimidated, re-formed and ruled by that very same scary mob. Many are afraid to speak truth because they will lose their jobs, be directly attacked and/or be shunned. This has been happening pretty much everywhere. So with great respect to Mr Rottenburg, it is my observation that most mainstream news is currently in fact incredibly biased and tiptoeing around reality. I have to agree with Chris Hedges on his observation that a 91% democratic readership does NOT reflect honest, unbiased journalism.
